Peter was born into an RAF family and as was so common at the time his father’s imminent posting to Germany meant that he became a border at Uplyme Boarding House under the auspices of Housemaster Mervyn Davies.

Peter was popular and fitted in well. He played rugby for the 3rd XV and organised the regular Gym Club which allowed Uplymers to use the school gym one evening a week. He greatly enjoyed the camaraderie of being a boarder and later described this time as one of the happiest of his life.

His subsequent career was centred round the Health Industry becoming first a senior Hospital Administrator then in the Pharmaceutical Industry and finally as Procurement Manager for a large hospital responsible for the purchase of everything – as he put it – ‘from bread and butter to an MRI Scanner’. Unfortunately ill health forced his early retirement in 2005.

As his health declined he became determined to try to contact as many of his Uplyme contemporaries as possible with a view to encouraging them to attend the Old Wycombiensian’s Annual Reunion Dinner. From small beginnings -just five of us – the number grew until three tables were filled with ‘Old Uplymers’ a few years later. Sadly by then his health was such that he was unable to attend.

Peter died 17 August aged 75.
